The development journey

Performance,
without plastic.

The project translated a runner’s frustration with conventional synthetic caps into a natural-material product system, then communicated that system clearly enough to earn decisive crowdfunding support.

Stage 01 / Runner-led brief

Start with the miles

The brief emerged from more than 2,000 miles of training for a 100-mile race. Heat, trapped sweat, odour and awkward adjustment became concrete product questions rather than abstract feature requests.

Stage 02 / Material architecture

Make natural fibres perform

Merino wool was developed as the cap’s functional core, supported by breathable plastic-free mesh, organic-fibre embroidery and stitching, and a plastic-free brim structure. The material choices were organised around airflow, moisture movement and next-to-skin comfort.

Stage 03 / Technical development

Resolve the whole system

Priyanka’s development work connected material behaviour, panel architecture, trim choices and wear testing. The cap had to remain light and packable while keeping each plastic-free component technically coherent.

Stage 04 / Fit innovation

One hand, precise control

A custom 3D-printed titanium dial replaced the familiar plastic closure. Its push-turn-release interaction was developed to make tightening and loosening quick, precise and possible with one hand.

Stage 05 / Launch and validation

A clear idea found its audience

The finished proposition brought the performance, comfort and environmental decisions into one legible product story. Across a 30-day Kickstarter campaign it reached US$39,689 against a US$5,000 goal, with 510 backers-794% funded, or nearly eight times its target.
